What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.
Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, Digi-Key) are called "first party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third party cookies." Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (e.g. like advertising, interactive content and analytics). The parties that set these third party cookies can recognize your computer both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.
We use first party and third party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons for our websites to operate, and we refer to these as "essential" or "strictly necessary" cookies. These cookies are "session cookies," which are erased when the user closes the Web browser. Other "persistent cookies" are stored for future visits, which enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance the experience on our websites. Third parties serve cookies through our websites for advertising, analytics, and other purposes. This is described in more detail below.
The specific types of first and third party cookies served through our websites and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific website you visit). By modifying your browser preferences, you may have the choice to accept cookies, to be notified when a cookie is sent, or to reject cookies. This is also detailed in the table below. The rejection or limitation of cookies may limit your ability to use our websites.
|Type of Cookie||Who serves these cookies||How to refuse|
Essential website cookies: These cookies are strictly necessary to provide you with services available through our websites and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas. They are also used to maintain an anonymous user session by the server.
|Because these cookies are strictly necessary to deliver the websites to you, you cannot refuse them.
You can block or delete them by changing your browser settings however, as described below under the heading "How can I control cookies?"
|Performance and functionality cookies: Performance cookies are used for web analytics to identify repeat visits and to enhance the performance and functionality of our websites. These cookies are non-essential to their use. However, without these cookies, certain functionality may become unavailable.
By default, these cookies are set to expire after 2 years, although this is customizable by website owners. The Sitecore cookie is set to expire after 10 years.
Functionality cookies are used to store the visitor's geolocation. This is to record location and update a page share count, as well as to track how often a user interacts with a web widget. These cookies also test whether a browser is set to accept first party cookies.

These cookies may also be used to make advertising messages more relevant to you. They perform functions like preventing the same ad from continuously reappearing, ensuring that ads are properly displayed for advertisers, and in some cases selecting advertisements that are based on your interests.

What about other tracking technologies, like web beacons and pixel tags?
Digi-Key may provide its product suppliers with a pixel tag to include on the supplier's website. The pixel tag is virtually invisible, but it will be, if included on supplier's website, served to your browser from www.digikey.com. By sending the pixel tag to your browser, Digi-Key has the opportunity to serve a cookie to you. This cookie contains a unique ID that allows Digi-Key to present a user, when the user interacts with Digi-Key, personalized content. The use of the pixel tag and resulting cooking only allows Digi-Key to learn that the user visited the supplier's website and then visited Digi-Key's website. The cookie does not allow Digi-Key to learn other sites a user may visit. The information collected through this process may be used in activity reports and shared with our suppliers, but we do not use this information to identify or disclose your name or contact details.
Digi-Key may include pixel tags of certain suppliers on various pages of Digi-Key's website related to the supplier's products. If Digi-Key includes this type of pixel tag on its website, the supplier has the opportunity to serve a cookie to you, which will contain a unique ID that would allow the supplier to present personalized content to you when you visit the supplier's website. The use of a pixel tag and resulting cookie in this manner only allows the supplier to learn that a user visited portions of Digi-Key's website and does not allow the supplier to learn other sites the user may have visited.
